If your cat has spent the majority of its life hanging out in the great outdoors, you are probably not too worried about what you have to do in order to ensure that your cat is kept safe while outside, but if you have a young cat who you are just beginning to let outside, or if you have recently moved, and you are beginning to let your cat out into its new surroundings, making sure you know what to do in order to keep your cat safe outside will be extremely important. Of course, the good news is that it is actually quite easy to ensure that you keep your cat safe, as long as you are keeping these simple steps in mind.

First of all, before you begin to let your cat outside, you should get them used to their new surroundings, and the best way to do this is by allowing your cat to spend time watching the world outside through a window; as your cat spends more and more time watching the world through the window, they will feel more comfortable when they finally get to go out there, and this will help them to keep their bearings when you let them outside.

A lot of people try to protect their furniture by removing their cat’s claws, but while this is certainly effective in protecting your furniture, this will not allow your cat to be effective in protecting their own self – so if you have declawed your cat, you should not let them outside!

And finally, no matter how comfortable your cat is with its surroundings, and even if your cat has claws, you should not allow it outside after dark, as even neighborhoods you might not imagine would have predators will sometimes end up with a hungry coyote or owl who would see your cat as a delectable treat!

If you simply keep these tips in mind, you will be able to go a long way in ensuring that your cat is safe when you let them outside.
